Review: Steins;Gate 0 – PS Vita (10/10)

I loved Steins;Gate and I can say Steins;Gate 0 surpasses what I liked about the first entry and improves on most things.

Steins;Gate 0 takes place on one of the bad ending of Steins;Gate and you are stuck in a timeline where you didn’t save a friend. Endings aren’t triggered by text anymore but in a differen’t way by choosing to talk to a certain character or not and pathways open in this style rather than just texted.

Speaking of text, the phone and story text look better and don’t just run off like in the first title which is a great thing. The artwork is sharper and the voice acting is great although I wish the cast who did the anime could have done it as well.

The story of Steins;Gate 0 does take quite a bit to get started but never felt the shock like I did in the first but the story is still just as strong. And yes, Mayuri still goes tutturu quite a bit. Okabe though is a great character and really changes in the title from the last. He feels broken and giving up on everything compared to how he proclaimed to be an evil scientist and getting to see Mayuri’s friends instead of seeing their names just mentioned was a great touch.

I would love to say more but it would spoil the first game as you need to play Steins;Gate to even know what the story is about. New characters like Maho are great even though the hairstyle looks like it was from Dragonball Z but she is a great character.

The music in Steins;Gate 0 is just as good and the game has still the humor like the first entry but this is a darker tale.

Conclusion

Steins;Gate 0 improves on most things of the first title and is a must play/read and one of the best titles in 2016.
