God Wars: Future Past

North America: June 20th (RetailPSN), Europe: June 16th (RetailPSN)
Genre: Strategy RPG, Publisher: NIS America

God Wars: Future Past PS Vita

God Wars: Future Past is a tactical RPG that explores the untold history of Japan through folklore and tactical combat. Gamers will experience the traditional stories of Japan’s origin through the lens of three warring nations, with a massive expanse of tactical options to develop their strategies from including a myriad of character classes and equipment within innovative and challenging stages.

Like most legends, the game begins with a land that once brimmed with harmony between humans and nature. But, because humans soon discovered the efficiencies of technology, nature fell victim to neglect and destruction. For this reason, the Myriad Gods that watched over the land of Mizuho began to wreak havoc on the humans, and to quell this instability, the queen sacrifices her second daughter, Sakuya, in hopes of appeasing the gods. Moreover, she confines her youngest daughter, Kaguya, as a backup sacrifice and then vanishes.

After 13 long years, Kaguya escapes her confinement with her childhood friend, Kintaro, and the two begin their journey to discover the reasons behind Tsukuyomi’s decisions.

Summon Night 6: Lost Borders

North America: June 27th (RetailPSN), Europe: June 27th (PSN)
Genre: RPG, Publisher: Gaijinworks

Summon Night 6: Lost Borders PS Vita

Summon Night 6: Lost Borders weaves an emotional tale of friendship and discovery that begins in the sparsely populated “cocoon world” of Fillujah, where the three main characters (Raj, Amu and Ist) live in virtual isolation. Each has a single companion, a flying sidekick with an amazing special power, and they are all surprised when dozens of strangers begin to suddenly appear—literally falling out of the clear, blue sky.

The gameplay is classic Summon Night, but turbocharged and streamlined. The usual strategy grid is displayed when you move, but the characters are free to run anywhere within their movement range without being limited to the squares. The Summon magic is represented here, as expected, as are assists, but there’s a new huge Summon Burst type of attack that unleashes crazy devastation on enemies.

Terrain is expressed in 3D beautifully, as are the characters. And the ever-popular night conversations are available with more characters than ever to help develop strong ties with allies at the end of every chapter.

Valkyria Revolution

North America: June 27th (PSN), Europe: June 30th (PSN)
Genre: Strategy RPG, Publisher: SEGA

Valkyria Revolution PS Vita

Valkyria Revolution is a spinoff to the Valkyria Chronicles series and takes place in a whole different timeline, continent, and universe than its predecessors. Familiar elements — such as the precious mineral ragnite and the legendary beings known as the Valkyria — make a return.

Instead of a World War II influence, the game is inspired by the European industrial revolution and focuses on a war of liberation between two vastly different nations. One of the biggest difference is the battle system. The turn-based action has been replaced with faster-paced combat. This hybrid battle system combines the tactics of customizing squad behavior and loadouts with real-time action for some pretty intense moments on the field.

Valkyria Revolution tells a very human story about war. The small independent kingdom of Jutland is suffocating from an economic blockade sanctioned by the tyrannical Ruzi Empire, and must resort to war in order to liberate itself and the surrounding lands from the Ruzi’s imperialist conquest. There’s one small problem: the Ruzi Empire have a Valkyria.

Tokyo Xanadu

North America: June 30th (RetailPSN), Europe: June 30th, 2017 (RetailPSN)
Genre: Action RPG, Publisher: Aksys Games

Tokyo Xanadu PS Vita

In Tokyo Xanadu, a colossal earthquake devastates Tokyo and changes the lives of its inhabitants forever. 10 years pass and the city and its inhabitants slowly return to a semblance of normalcy. However, behind the veil of this newly rebuilt metropolis lies another world, one with a sinister secret.

The earthquake that originally destroyed Tokyo was actually caused by the emergence of a mysterious and lethal shadow world known as Eclipse. Now, action must be taken to thwart the legions of Eclipse and ensure the protection of peace.

Epic stakes always make for dramatic quests, but any hero worth their weight in loot and XP knows that no adventure is ever complete without a memorable cast of quirky characters. Tokyo Xanadu offers this in spades as you’re guaranteed to encounter a multitude of eccentric personalities in your journey through Moriyama City.
