Review: Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics – PS Vita (9.5/10)

Quick play RPGs aren’t new and have been on every system for awhile and the PS Vita now can say it has one to call its own labeled Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics. The premise of the game is to stop a calamity called the shine raid, a huge light engulfing the world that it gets a hold of so you got to find a way to stop it.

When I call this a quick game I mean if you play on easy, after the 400km mark you face the boss and if you win, the game ends. When playing on the harder difficulty, you get a choice to confront the boss or to continue. The pixel graphics are great to look at and the crossover characters make the game even more fun to play but all classes play different and each has its pros and downsides.

What makes Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics different is that online is heavy in the game with online worlds to play in and player vs player. You can also tweet your results which sadly looks ugly when you look at them but it’s something new so hopefully it gets better but it still is a neat gimmick. After a run you get to save an item in your dream vault that you could use it for the next run if you choose.

You also get genesis stones that can unlock classes, perks and add more space in the vault. Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics is a roguelike game but perks you unlock stay on your characters for every run and some you can stack to increase their use as well.

You can also use dream stones to build the castle and to get a chance to earn more items in your runs. Weight plays a big part in the game and if you are over your weight limit, you won’t be able to move which makes the risk even higher because some items won’t be identified until after the run or by a rare item.

The game loads up quick and I had no issues during gameplay . To get the true ending will require luck and I doubt most will get it but that is the best part of the rogue style genre. The worlds are coded and also link between the PS Vita, PS4 and PC versions so write your code down and share them with other players.

Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics is an addictive roguelike side-scrolling RPG with “one-more-run” value that guarantees very long replayability. Limited Run Games will be doing a limited run on physical editions of the title and it’s one to own big time.

so i downloaded ths game and i can only say that i hated every second of it. The character movement is terrible and the game overall just did not appeal to me. While it probably may be a great game, for me personally, its terrible and i would rate it 3/10.
