PS Vita at PSX – Iconoclasts Impressions

By 2 Old 4 Gaming

When I first saw the trailer for Iconoclasts I was really impressed. A 2D Action platformer with puzzles and what looked to be a deep story is the kind of game I’d love to play. When I went hands on with the game at PSX it pretty much lived up to my expectations. It was only playable on PS4 at the show, but the developer assured me it’s the same as the Vita version.

The demo I played was not that long. It had me progressing through a woodland and underground area eliminating enemies and solving puzzles to open doors to the next section. The puzzle elements were very straight forward. I’d presume it gets more complicated later in the game, but for the demo it was a bit easy.

The gameplay was where Iconoclasts shines though. Running, jumping and shooting all felt great and the pixel graphics looked amazing. Some enemies could be killed by shooting your gun and some needed to be slammed from above. It all felt very natural and fluid which made the game easy to get to grips with.

The trailers had already sold me on the style of the game, but having now played it, I’m even more excited to get it on my Vita and play through properly. The developer said there are loads of bosses to discover and defeat and I’m looking forward to doing just that when the game releases in January 2018.
