Metroidvania Action-Platformer Hardcore Coming To PS Vita & PS4 In 2019
Strictly Limited Games has announced that they will release the Metroidvania action-platformer Hardcore for PS Vita and PS4 in 2019 both physically and digitally.
Originally developed by Digital Illusions (also known as DICE) for Commodore Amiga, Sega Genesis and Sega Mega-CD, Hardcore was about 99% finished but the game was never released due to a shift towards the next generation consoles, most notably the more powerful Sony PlayStation with its incredible 3D graphics.
More than 20 years later, Hardcore will now be revived by Strictly Limited Games with the help of DICE founders Fredrik Liljegren and Joakim Wejdemar, long-time DICE member Mikael Kalms, 68000-coding specialist Matt Phillips from Big Evil Corporation, emulation expert Steve Snake, porting-ace Mathew Gambrell as well as level designer Gerhard Weihrauch.
Hardcore is being developed using original Sega Mega Drive development hardware. It will then be ported to PS Vita and PS4. Hardcore will deliver the most complete experience possible and will also include vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up stages originally planned only for the Sega Mega CD version.
