Nintendo Plans To Release New Switch Model In 2019

The Wallstreet Journal reports that Nintendo plans to release a new Switch model in the latter half of 2019, as early as the Summer.

According to suppliers and others with direct knowledge of the plan, Nintendo is still debating what new hardware and software features to include in the new Switch model and weighing the cost of these features.

One option is to improve the display. The current Switch model uses a lower-end LCD display without some technologies that are standard in recent smartphone LCDs. But the new model is not expected to adopt the OLED panels used in Apple’s iPhone X series.

According to The Wallstreet Journal, sales of the Switch are still solid but are no longer delivering the favorable surprises that marked the machine’s first year on the market. With the introduction of a new Switch model, Nintendo aims to maintain the sales momentum of the device, people with knowledge of the plan said.

Just waiting for all those 3DS fanboys who continue to be hard headed insisting that Switch is NOT the 3DS’s successor, because the current model is “too big” with “too short” of a battery life to chime in. It’s not like Pokemon, the franchise keeping 3DS alive, is moving from it to Switch or anything. Oh, wait…
