In our gameplay video, we dive into the opening moments of Shadow Labyrinth – all played on Nintendo Switch 1 – and explore whether its unique blend of action platforming and Pac-Man-inspired mechanics can truly come together.
📝 Mini Review
While Shadow Labyrinth presents a promising premise, we weren’t entirely convinced by the final execution. The game opens with a mysterious and intriguing atmosphere, but it quickly becomes apparent that the fusion of action platforming with Pac-Man-inspired gameplay doesn’t quite gel. In fact, we found ourselves wishing the game focused solely on the Pac-Man-style mechanics, as the platforming often feels stiff and detracts from the overall experience.
On a more positive note, the Nintendo Switch version runs impressively well—maintaining a near-flawless 60 fps performance, at least in the early stages in docked mode. Technically, it holds up nicely compared to other titles on the platform. However, the pricing feels off. At $29.99, the game seems a bit steep for what it offers; a $19.99 price point would feel more appropriate. That said, the inclusion of both Switch 1 and Switch 2 versions at that price is a welcome bonus.
✅ Pros
- Smooth and stable performance at 60 fps in docked mode in early stages
- Includes free upgrade to Switch 2 version
- Mysterious opening draws initial interes
❌ Cons
- Platforming controls feel stiff and unresponsive
- Gameplay blend lacks cohesion and polish
- Price feels high for the overall experience
🔍 Final Verdict: AVERAGE
A decent experience with some interesting ideas, but held back by stiff gameplay and uneven design.
