📽️ Gameplay Video

In our gameplay video, we dive into the opening moments of Shadow Labyrinth – all played on Nintendo Switch 2 – and explore whether its unique blend of action platforming and Pac-Man-inspired mechanics can truly come together.

📝 Mini Review

While Shadow Labyrinth has a promising premise, we weren’t fully convinced by the final product. The game begins with a mysterious tone that draws you in, but the blend of action platforming and Pac-Man-inspired gameplay doesn’t quite work. In fact, we would have preferred a more focused experience centered solely on the Pac-Man-style mechanics, as the platforming often feels stiff and detracts from the overall flow.

Visually, the game looks better on Nintendo Switch 2, but unfortunately, it runs worse than on Switch 1. Although it targets 60 fps, frequent frame rate drops – sometimes quite severe – undermine the experience. We hope Bandai Namco addresses this with a performance patch, as the current state on Switch 2 feels sub-par.

As for pricing, $29.99 seems a bit high for what the game offers. A $19.99 price point would feel more appropriate. That said, the inclusion of both Switch 1 and Switch 2 versions at that price is a nice touch and adds some value.

✅ Pros
  • Interesting and mysterious concept
  • Strong visual style, especially on Switch 2
  • Includes both Switch 1 and Switch 2 versions in one purchase
❌ Cons
  • Switch 2 version suffers from frequent frame rate drops
  • Gameplay blend of platforming and Pac-Man mechanics feels uneven
  • Price feels too high for the overall experience
🔍 FInal Vertict: AVERAGE

A decent experience with some intriguing ideas, but it’s held back by stiff gameplay and uneven design. While the Switch 2 version offers higher resolution visuals, it struggles to maintain a consistent 60 fps performance.
