I started diving into Wild Hearts S on Nintendo Switch 2 a week ago, so I was really curious to see how the final version would play – big thanks to Koei Tecmo for granting early access with a review copy.

๐Ÿ“ Mini Review

Wild Hearts S is essentially a more approachable take on the Monster Hunter formula, offering streamlined combat and a gentler learning curve. While Iโ€™ve played a few Monster Hunter titles before, I often found them slow-paced and struggled with the control scheme. Wild Hearts S, however, feels refreshingly accessible, and I personally prefer its design and mechanics.

I focused mainly on gameplay rather than story – and I have to say, it’s genuinely satisfying. Your mission is to track and take down massive nature-infused beasts called Kemono, and you can team up with up to three other players locally or online. I played solo and offline, and although it took a little time to get used to the mechanics, once everything clicked, I had a blast. The Kemono can be quite challenging, so analyzing their attack patterns becomes key to mastering your combat strategy.

As for performance on Nintendo Switch 2, itโ€™s mostly solid. I noticed framerate fluctuations between 40โ€“60 fps, but they didnโ€™t detract from my enjoyment, especially in the early stages. This is definitely one of those games Iโ€™d play more if I had the time – content creation demands keep me moving to the next title. But for those with more gaming hours to spare, this is a world worth getting lost in.

โœ… Pros
  • Streamlined Combat System: Easier to get into compared to traditional Monster Hunter titles, making it more accessible for newcomers.
  • Satisfying Solo Gameplay: Once the mechanics click, hunting Kemono solo is both challenging and rewarding.
  • Karakuri Technology Adds Depth: Creative tools like traps and gliders make combat and exploration more strategic and dynamic.
โš ๏ธ Cons
  • Framerate Inconsistencies: Performance dips between 40โ€“60 fps may be noticeable in some moments.
  • Limited Physical Availability: Only offered as a game key card or digital download.
๐Ÿ”š Final Verdict: 8/10 โ€“ GOOD

Wild Hearts S is a solid and welcome addition to the Nintendo Switch 2 library – not just for fans of Monster Hunter. While the frame rate isnโ€™t entirely consistent, it never got in the way of the fun and satisfaction the game delivers.
